Teacup Yorkies are very tiny, fragile and significantly smaller than an average yorkie. The weight of
these tiny babies will be between 2 to 4 pounds when fully grown, while Regular Yorkies typically weigh between 4 and 7 pounds. This means they are very delicate & fragile and are not for children like a standard size Yorkie.
Hypoglycemia
Hypoglycemia or low blood sugar is a common problem in small breed puppies, as they
eat such small amounts and do not have energy stored yet, like developed adults have. allowing
them to maintain an adequate blood glucose (BG) in times of fasting or stress. Small breed puppies
are at an even greater disadvantage because they have a relatively higher metabolic rate and energy requirement per unit body mass than larger breed puppies. Small breed puppies may also be more likely to suffer from hypothermia (decreased body temperature) for a similar reason, which can then lead to decreased food intake, (such as going to a new home). Letting a tiny yorkie run around on the floor for 10 - 15 minutes. Then does not stop to eat. Then will go to sleep because he/she is tired. May go into low sugar. (You need to understand the size they are and what small amount of food they can eat at a time. They use that protein & sugar up quickly. When in doubt give a little karo or nutri-cal.
Always a must to have these on hand - Karo syrup (clear), Nutri-Cal, puréed Chicken baby food,
or small pieces of white chicken meat cut up. Keep them on sugar water if your puppy is suffering from canine hypoglycemia is by mixing a level tablespoon of karo syrup in their water. Make sure you stir the mixture thoroughly until all of the sugar is dissolved. This is a good idea until they start putting on weight and are adjusted to their new home. The babies' gums should be a darker pink in color. (This is the quickest way to see there is a problem starting). Syringe light color karo syrup into the puppy side of his/her mouth. You want the gums to stay darker pink. It takes about 15/20 minutes to get into there system. Then see if they will eat there dry food, if not you want to feed yogurt or chicken. (So when in doubt check the babies gums). Another way to know is they may have a acetone smell to there breath. This happens when the low sugar. Important to keep them warm, as they do not have the body temperature because they are so small. little fleece top & thicker bed to use is always better, too. If they are shaking it's either they are cold, low sugar, and cold. Wrap in a fleece blanket and get them warm. If need be, get a heating pad and cover with fleece, hold them on there until the temperature comes back up. keeping them off floor, in a playpen so they do not get chilled.
SHOT INFORMATION
NEVER get more than 1 shot at a time. This will send your puppy into a down word spiral, as
it is way to much for their system to handle. (DO NOT get Lepto in the shots, side affects can be deadly). The American Animal Hospital Association considers Leptospirosis a “non-core” vaccine for dogs. They do not recommend has a lot of bad side affects. (Heartworm disease is caused by a parasitic worm called Dirofilaria immitis. The worms are spread through the bite of a mosquito. So if your baby will stay inside to potty, one less chemical to put in or on body). PARVO VIRUS LIVES IN DIRT & GRASS PUPPIES NOT FULLY VACCINATED CAN GET PARVO. DO NOT LET THEM GET DOWN OUTSIDE UNTILL ALL SHOTS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED. IT IS VERY SERIOUS AND IS DEADLY... I personally do not put my babies on heart worm until they are 8 months of age. Unless they are a larger puppy. (I would never take a puppy to Pet smart or be around other dogs until they have all the vaccines). They are like having a new born baby.
